J.A. Jance returns to Sedona!

Venue: The Well Red Coyote

Tuesday, August 5, noon: J.A. Jance returns to Sedona to sign the latest Joanna Brady, #13, DAMAGE CONTROL! On a beautiful sunny day, in the Coronado National Monument, an elderly couple drives their car off the side of a mountain and into oblivion. The terrain is so rocky that a helicopter must be flown in to retrieve the bodies, and, to make matters worse, a thunderstorm is looming on the horizon. Hours later and miles away, the subsiding rain reveals gruesome evidence: two trash bags containing human remains. It’s just another day in the life of Cochise County Sheriff Joanna Brady.

The prolific author of the Joanna Brady, J.P. Beaumont and Ali Reynolds series is such a Sedona favorite. After being refused admittance into the University of Arizona's creative writing program because she was a woman, J.A. Jance has gone on to publish thirty-six mysteries and thrillers, as well as a book of poetry, AFTER THE FIRE. She was raised in Bisbee, AZ, and now divides her time between Seattle, WA and Tucson, AZ.

Alternate Health Talk

Venue: The Well Red Coyote

Friday, August 8, 7 pm: Can health be reduced to the treatment of symptoms and dis-eases? Or, can we embrace the possibility that health and wholeness is a far greater experience than simply the absence of illness or pain. James L. Forleo, author of HEALTH IS SIMPLE – DISEASE IS COMPLICATED, says the Intelligence of our bodies is constantly trying to communicate with us by way of our signs and symptoms. The problem is, we don’t understand the body's language. The human body is a magnificently intelligent self-healing organism that is capable of creating vibrant health on all levels of experience. In his talk, he'll show us how to read the language of the body and how to create your own unique health care program.

In his breakthrough book, HEALTH IS SIMPLE – DISEASE IS COMPLICATED, Dr. Forleo helps readers decipher their signs, symptoms and dis-eases and access the great realms of health and vitality available to them within their own bodies. Written in a thoroughly lively and engaging style, HEALTH IS SIMPLE takes a systems approach to health, walking readers through the basic design and function of each of the major organ systems of the body and offers a set of highly effective, yet simple practices, to help each system perform at more effective levels. With as little as a few minutes a day, one begins to experience greater and greater dimensions of health and wellbeing.

Dr. Forleo specializes in holistic health and has over 30 years of clinical experience in chiropractic, spinal biomechanics, applied kinesiology, clinical nutrition, and cranial osteopathy. A popular workshop leader and educator who writes regularly for Today’s Chiropractic and Dynamic Chiropractic magazines.

Writing Workshop: Novelists and Screenplay Writers - What Can They Learn from One Another

Venue: The Well Red Coyote

Saturday, August 9, 2 pm: Rita Lakin, author and screenwriter, will present a workshop on "Novelists and Screenplay Writers - What Can They Learn from One Another," in which she will discuss the pros and cons of getting into either genre and will share the writing secrets that novelists and screenwriters can learn from each other, and those they both need to know.

Fate took Rita from New York to Los Angeles where she was seduced by palm trees and movie studios. The next twenty years she wrote for television and had every possible job from freelance writer to story editor to staff then finally producing. She worked on shows such as Dr. Kildare, Peyton Place, Mod Squad & Dynasty. She created her own shows: The Rookies, Flamingo Road and Nightingales. She wrote many MOW’s (Movie's of the Week) and mini-series such as Death takes A Holiday, Women In Chains, Strong Medicine & Voices of the Heart. She has also written two original theatrical plays, No Language But a Cry and Saturday Night at Grossinger’s (co-authored) which are still being produced. Her many awards include Writers Guild of America, Mystery Writers of America’s Edgar Allen Poe and the coveted Avery Hopwood Award from the University of Michigan.

She is now back to her first love, writing novels, currently writing the sixth in her comedy-mystery featuring a group of elderly ladies in Florida who become private eyes. Among the books in the series are GETTING OLD IS MURDER, GETTING OLD IS THE BEST REVENGE, and her latest, GETTING OLD IS TO DIE FOR.

Mystery Scene describes the series as: “The Golden Girls play Nancy Drew in their own funny and creative ways...colorful and Meshugeneh.” And bestselling author, Carolyn Hart, writes: “Gladdy Gold is a treasure, Miss Marple in Yiddish. Salty. Sassy. Sunny.”

Medium Talk: The Funny Side of the Other Side: Experiences of a Bemused Medium

Venue: The Well Red Coyote

Saturday, August 23, 2 pm: Medium & author Charles A. Filius considers himself a “living ghostwriter for the dead.” Join Charles for an entertaining and enlightening event as he shares his unique experiences as a medium, channel and automatic writer. Like many of us Charles was very receptive to Spirit as a child. And, again like so many, he shut down in his teens. That door was blown open once again when he hit 40. He will openly share his early misgivings and how he finally embraced his future as a medium in his distinctively lighthearted and engaging style. He is living proof that destiny certainly has a way of imposing its intentions.

Charles will discuss his book, SELECTIONS FROM ON A WING AND A PRAYER, which came from equal parts Divine Inspiration, urgent motivation and perspiration. If time allows he will also give some random readings to members of the audience.

Spirit Medium and Psychic, Charles A. Filius is an ambitious combination of comedy, enlightenment, compassion, and intense bravado in one embodiment! He clearly communicates with deceased loved ones as well as Spirit Guides and the Angelic Realm in a most unique manner. Charles' profound gifts as both a medium and a humorist have made him a favorite amongst folks from coast-to-coast. His easy-going humor gives much needed balance to sessions that can often be emotionally draining. His distinctive voice and style are clearly apparent in this touching and laugh-out-loud funny chronicle of a former non-believer who has stepped into his own as one of the most unique mediums around.

Charles is a certified instructor of The Anastasi System of Psychic Development with over 400 hours of specialized training in psychic work such as telepathy and clairsentience, channeling, and spirit communication. The Anastasi System is the only Psychic Development training system of its kind and has trained over a thousand people, many of whom have gone on to become professionals, since 1979. Charles is one of the first instructors fully certified to teach the system outside of its home in Florida. Charles is aided by spirit in his workshops; his strong sense of humor and unique visualization make them a highly charged, uplifting and clearly enjoyable experience for all.
