BETWEEN THE LINES
Book Talk by Joe
This Ain’t No Box of Cookies
One of the most creative
and exciting books of the year has just been published, and
for once it’s not available on Amazon.com. In fact it’s
only available right here in Sedona.
The Onomatopoetics are seven members of the Poetry Club of
Sedona Red Rock High School. Under the inspiration and direction
of Christopher Lane, executive director of the NORAZ Poets,
they have just published their first poetry anthology –
THIS AIN'T NO BOX OF COOKIES.
As the official book partner of the NORAZ Poets here in Sedona,
The Well Red Coyote is exposed to a lot of local poetry, not
only from individual poets but also from anthologies like
THE COLLARD PECCARY. And, just when we think that it can’t
get any better or that we’ve seen and read it all, something
like this comes along.
THIS AIN'T NO BOX OF COOKIES is a very unique and creative
collection of thirteen poems by local high school students
Maryanne Mobley, Courtney Seigleman, Jessica Guadarrama, Chris
Lidfors, Tanya Marcy, Brooklyn Nichols and Isabella De Luz.
Under the guidance of Elaine Vail, SRRHS librarian and national
recitation coach for Poetry Out Loud, Karyl Goldsmith, SRRHS
humanities teacher and poetry coach, as well as Christopher
Lane, these young poets have created something very special.
And the good news is there should be more to come –
“Volume One” is printed on the front cover. I
already can’t wait for Volume Two!
So if you have any doubts that the future of our individual
creativity is in good hands, come on by and take a read through
THIS AIN'T NO BOX OF COOKIES. You will be amazed!
