Meet
Jon Talton & Writing Workshop: "Writing mysteries,
thrillers, journalism, blogs and not going crazy"?
6 pm: Reader Reception and Chat time with Jon
7 pm: Writers Workshop (suitable for readers, too)
Friday, May 14, 7 pm: Arizona
native son, Jon Talton, author
of DEADLINE MAN, will meet with
readers and share insights for writers in all of the many
areas in which he writes. Jon Talton has at least three jobs:
Novelist, newspaper journalist and independent blogger. The
writing for each demands different and sometimes conflicting
skills and mindsets. Even with his books, Jon has branched
out from the trustworthy David Mapstone series into another
series, as well as a new thriller -- all with separate voices
and styles. He'll discuss how he tries to keep it all together
and shares the lessons he’s learned about writing in
all these mediums with other writers and readers.
Jon Talton is the author of nine
novels, including the award-winning David Mapstone Mysteries
and THE PAIN NURSE, the first of the Cincinnati Casebooks
series. His new book is the thriller, DEADLINE
MAN. It received a starred review in Booklist, which
called it “a knockout novel.”
Jon has spent more than 25 years as a working journalist,
including as a columnist for the Arizona Republic. Now he
is economics columnist for the Seattle Times, and he continues
to write about Arizona issues and history on his blog, roguecolumnist.com.
Jon is also a fourth-generation Arizonan. |

Yoga Presentation
& Talk: Yoga for the Rest of Us – Anywhere, Anytime,
Any Body Yoga
Saturday, May 15, 2 pm: Have you
wanted to start a yoga regime, but you fear you're not fit or
flexible enough? Or do you have physical challenges? Emily
Slonina, author of ANYWHERE, ANYTIME
ANY BODY YOGA will present a practical approach to using
yoga in everyday life. If you think yoga is only for the young,
fit and flexible, or that it requires lots of time and money
for classes, think again!
Yoga was never meant to be intimidating, exclusive or a fashion
trend. Yoga has endured for five thousand years because everyone
— no matter what their age or condition — can practice
it. Each of us can experience its benefits for body, mind and
spirit. These benefits can include stabilized blood pressure,
stronger bones, decreased stress, pain relief, fewer injuries,
increased flexibility, improved balance and graceful aging.
In Emily's get-you-going guide, this gentle teacher shares simple
exercises and ideas that you can incorporate into your daily
life right away, while sitting in a chair, doing housework,
working at the office, lying on a bed, traveling or watching
TV.
ANYWHERE, ANY TIME, ANY BODY YOGA uses photos of regular
people — not advanced students or masters — who
show you how to modify poses as needed. Like many of us, the
models have health issues such as chronic pain, heart disease,
scoliosis, arthritis or fibromyalgia.
Emily will show you how to breathe for ease, listen to and work
with your own body, warm-up and de-stress and experience meditation
and relaxation whenever, wherever. With yoga, a few minutes
here and a few there add up. Remember, all kinds of people have
practiced yoga for centuries because it just plain feels good.
So come and learn how you can start receiving this health benefits.
Start wherever you are — the benefits begin when you do.
Emily Slonina is a certified hatha yoga instructor and
a laughter yoga leader. She's also a Trager Neuromuscular Re-Education
Practitioner, a Reiki master/trainer. Emily's passion is sharing
the benefits of yoga with people dealing with physical challenges.

Our 5th Annual
Bob Dylan Birthday Party!
Venue: Old Town Center for the Arts in Old Town Cottonwood
Saturday, May 22, 7 pm: Joe
Neri and the Mystery Tramps will perform a wide selection
of Dylan songs, some solo and
acoustic and others with the full backing of Joe’s electric
blues band, Blues Dawg. The Mystery Tramps, in addition to
Joe, include, Alexander, Scott
Beck, Gary Every, Vyktoria
Pratt Keating, Chris Seymour
and Debra Windsong, with backing
by Keys Marsh, Hutch
Hutchinson and Ed Tortorello.
Every show has been different, with hundreds of Dylan songs
to choose from, and every show is full of surprises. This
year’s show will feature the new acoustic trio of William
Eaton, Dan Engler and Don Whitcher, as well as a great rendition
of “Subterranean Homesick Blues” by poet Gary
Every.
“The show has grown enormously,”
says Joe Neri, the show’s producer and co-owner of The
Well Red Coyote bookstore, “starting out in 2006 as
a small acoustic show in our bookstore and evolving into a
major stage show at the Old Town Center. And this year’s
event will be biggest and best yet!”
“And, we always sing “Happy Birthday” to
Bob Dylan, and then break for birthday cake,” says Neri.
One very popular part of the show for the past four years,
and will definitely be included in this fifth annual show,
is an audience participation singing of “Desolation
Row,” with Neri singing the first two and the last verses
of this 10-verse Dylan epic and individual members of the
audience coming on stage to sing the middle verses.
